The Importance of CV Joints & Boots

Scheduling regular car servicing is key in preserving the quality of your car parts and averting damage. The CV Joints serve as a prime example: their protective boots should be inspected often as a tear or breakage will quickly cause the joint to wear away and break, resulting in an even costlier repair than just replacing the boots.

The CV Joints (constant velocity joints) are needed to deliver torque to the wheels while the car is turning while in motion.

The CV Boot is a protective rubber covering for the CV Joint. Sealed at both ends by a metal clip and filled with grease, it keeps water, dirt and the elements away from the CV Joint, preserving its life and operation.

Unfortunately, this rubber can weaken over time and eventually tear, releasing grease and inviting the ingress of contaminants. To reduce the risk of damage, the problem must be addressed before the Boot fails or shortly afterwards. Without lubrication, the CV Joint can quickly degrade, leading to potential seizing or even catastrophic failure while in use.

Have you gone too long without getting your CV Joints and Boots examined? Do you hear clicking when turning or notice a dark grease stain around your car's wheel and rims? If so, bring your vehicle to our Pakenham workshop for a checkup. We'll inspect and diagnose the issue.
